This May, Paradox and NOOR launched 48 Stories – Mapping the Palestinian Diaspora. Almost 200 people attended the debate at Pakhuis de Zwijger, with photographers, curators and researchers reflecting on the representation of the nakba. The collection of stories on 48stories.org has been growing ever since.
48 Stories documents the personal stories of Palestinians who were displaced after the nakba (Arabic for catastrophe) of May 1948, when the state of Israel was founded. In the past two years, seven photographers travelled to Palestinian communities around the world to capture their memories, experiences and everyday lives. Access the work of Ezz al Zanoon (PS), Tanya Habjouqa (JO), Rula Halawani (PS),Sarka Kvinka (CZ), Kadir van Lohuizen (NL), Ali Noureldine (PS) and Yasmine Omari (PS/US) on 48stories.org, a free web app optimized for mobile devices.
48 Stories aims to preserve the stories of Palestinians, both 1948 survivors and their descendants, and makes their histories visible in the present. It tells the stories of Umm Omar, Victoria Larach, Mustafa El-Masri and many others in online episodes on 48stories.org.
